The Fujisan World Cultural Heritage Council led the way in formulating “Fujisan, Sacred Place and Source of Artistic Inspiration: Visions and Strategies” based on the points, recommendations, and requirements in the decision determined at the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee (37 COM 8B.29).
The Comprehensive Preservation Management Plan for Fujisan was formulated to ensure that the outstanding universal value of Fujisan would be passed on to the next generation. It outlined fundamental policies and detailed project plans based on these policies.
The Fujisan World Cultural Heritage Council formulated the Fujisan World Heritage Site Vision, which included the resolution to encourage all Japanese people, including those who live on and in the foothills of Fujisan, to faithfully protect the present state of the sacred and beautiful World Cultural Heritage Site, and to improve the condition of the mountain and its surrounding environment.
Strategies were formulated to solve issues and make improvements based on provided definitions of conservation and utilization. These reflect the methods of managing the 25 assets as a single entity and as a single cultural landscape.
Aiming to include Fujisan in the World Heritage List, the Comprehensive Preservation Management Plan for Fujisan was formulated in January 2012 to conserve the multiple assets as a single entity and to ensure that the outstanding universal value of the mountain was passed across to the next generation.
Furthermore, in line with the decision set forth by the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee, and with due consideration of the Vision and Strategies established by the Fujisan World Cultural Heritage Council in Dec. 2014, existing plans were revised in January 2016 to further promote the conservation management of Fujisan. A review of all plans of action, together with detailed processes, was also carried out.
See the page on Conservation Initiatives for information on concrete initiatives based on these strategies and plans.
